CINQUE COSE BELLE …about apples.

Ciao, eccoti qua a leggere (o ad ascoltare) la mia prima newsletter. Lo confesso, sono molto emozionata. La cosa bella, però, e' che invece di scrivere su instagram o facebook, sento che qui siamo solo io e te. Perciò grazie di esserti iscritto/a.
Come è andata la tua settimana?
La mia è passata velocemente, troppo velocemente, come al solito. Ho pensato a come scrivere questa lettera almeno un milione di volte, era una cosa che volevo fare da molto molto tempo, ma ho sempre posticipato. Mi dicevo di non essere brava abbastanza, poi però ho pensato di fare quello che dico sempre di fare ai miei studenti. Mi sono buttata! Ed eccomi qui, ci provo e so che con il tuo aiuto a poco a poco migliorerò.
Questa mattina verso le sette ho fatto un caffè, l'ho messo nella mia tazza preferita (quella verde acqua che ho comprato all'op shop a Rosebud l'anno scorso), sono uscita, ho messo le ciabatte e sono andata a controllare che le lumache la scorsa notte non avessero mangiato i piantini di basilico appena piantato (fortunatamente è ancora li).
Ho notato che finalmente il mio melo (l’albero delle mele) era fiorito. Adoro vedere sbocciare quei fiorellini bianchi e rosa... Ho pensato: “il tema della lettera di questa settimana deve essere la mela”.
Perché le storie importanti incominciano sempre con una mela, no?

Hi, here you are reading (or listening to) my first newsletter. I confess, I am very excited. The nice thing, though, is that instead of writing on instagram or facebook, I feel like it's just you and me here. Which is to say, thank you for subscribing.
How was your week?
Mine went fast, too fast, as usual. I have thought about how to write this letter at least a million times; it was something I wanted to do for a very long time, but I always postponed it. I told myself I wasn't good enough, but then I thought about doing what I always tell my students to do: I threw myself in! And here I am, trying something unfamiliar, and I know that with your help, I will gradually improve.
This morning, around seven, I made coffee, put it in my favorite cup (the teal one I bought at the op shop in Rosebud last year), put on my slippers, and went out to check if the snails had eaten my basil seedlings (fortunately, they are still there).
I noticed that finally my apple tree had bloomed. I love seeing those pink and white flowers blossom... I thought: “the theme of this week's letter must be the apple.”
Because, important stories always start with an apple, right?

VOCABOLARIO:
la mela (f/s) = the apple 🍎 / le mele (f/p) = the apples 🍎🍎
il melo (m/s) = the apple tree / i meli (m/p) = the apple trees
il meleto (m/s) = the apple orchard / i meleti (m/p) = the apple orchards
*in some cases, once you learn the name of a fruit, you will also instantly know the name of the tree—just change the last letter “a” (feminine) to an “o” (masculine):
la pera, il pero - pear, pear tree
la castagna, il castagno - chestnut, chestnut tree
l’albicocca, l’albicocco - apricot, apricot tree
l’arancia, l’arancio - orange, orange tree
la pesca, il pesco - peach, peach tree

This is not ALWAYS the case, so if you’re not sure just say albero di...

Nel corso del film (18regali) si vede più volte un piatto pieno di Frittelle di Mele. Mi ha fatto venire in mente quando la mattina prima di andare all'università andavo con la mia amiche a prendere un caffè in un bar bellissimo chiamato Torrefazione Samambaia in via Madama Cristina a Torino.
